Mountain Bike Rental, Road Bike Rental & Demo Program
Our Location - The Santa Monica Mountains
Topanga Creek Bicycles is conveniently located next to Topanga State Park, sometimes billed as "the largest state park within a city limit in the U.S." It's truly an oasis inside Los Angeles with lush open grassland, live oaks and jaw-dropping views of the Pacific Ocean. There's a large number of fire roads, trails and single tracks ideal for mountain bikers of all skill levels to explore. And best of all, most of the trails are accessible by bike right from our shop.
Because we are in the Santa Monica Mountains which also encompasses neighboring Malibu Creek State Park, Calabasas, Agoura Hills and beyond, there are many more trails of various difficulty levels within a short driving distance from the shop. Some of the popular trails are Cheeseboro/Sulphur Springs, Big Sycamore Canyon, Los Robles Canyon and more. With our race-proven demo bicycles you will surely enjoy some of the best mountain biking experience Los Angeles has to offer. You are also welcome to join us on our Saturday morning shop bike ride.
Our Rental Program
Whether you're from out of town or live locally in neighboring cities such as Santa Monica, Malibu, Beverly Hills, Hollywood or the beach cities, renting a mountain bike from us is very easy and convenient because we're only 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles, or 12 miles from the Santa Monica Pier. We offer some of the best high performance mountain bikes from BMC, Niner, Maverick, Pivot, Salsa and more. Most of the bikes are full suspension and some 29ers are rigid, and all are perfect for Southern California terrain.
We recommend that you make a rental reservation even though walk-ins are welcome. All you need to do is show up as helmet is included with each rental and we stock Camelbak Hydration Packs, water bottles and energy bars for purchase if you forget to bring them. Pedals are available in platform, SPD and Crank Brothers. You can leave the car by the shop and it's a short ride to the trailheads.
Our Demo Program
We have developed a simple and easy Mountain Bike / Road Bike Demo Program with amazing bikes from BMC, Niner, Salsa, Orbea, Pivot and Spot for you to try out before you buy. You can also demo different bikes during the demo period. Demo is totally free of charge when you purchase a bike from us (up to five Afternoon or Overnight demo fees can be applied towards the bike at the time of purchase). Reservations are recommended to ensure availability of a bike. See below for the most current list of demo bikes.

Don't worry, we got paper maps to hand out when you show up to pick up the bike.
Road Bike Rental and Demo Program
Our Road bike rental/demo comes with saddle height adjustment and pedal installation of your requirement. If you need major fit
adjustments such as swapping out a stem, we require a fitting appointment 3 days in advance (fitting charge applies)
due to time-consuming nature of such process.

1 Afternoon means you pick up and return the bike in the same day. 2 Overnight means you pick up the bike on business day 1, and return it on our next business day. Get one extra day for FREE when you return the bike on Monday because Sunday is free. Or, get two overnights free when we are closed for a race or holiday. Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I park my car by the shop and leave it there while I go riding?
Yes, absolutely. Please make sure you don't park in the small lot across from the shop. Also try to park on the same side as the shop.
- Does helmet come with the rental/demo?
Yes it does. In fact, every rental/demo comes with a helmet and flat tire kit.
- Are water and snacks available at the shop?
Yes, we have water free for you to fill up. We also have water bottles, CamelBak hydration packs, energy bars, etc available for purchase.
- How early can I pick up my bike rental/demo?
You can pick up your bike as soon as we open in the morning at 11:00 am. Saturday mornings are always busy when we open due to the large crowd from the morning shop ride. We recommend that you show up around 12:00 pm to avoid waiting a long time to be helped. We also ask that you pick up your rental before 5:00 pm so we don't get flooded with overnight rentals when we close for the evening.
- How late can I return the bike rental/demo?
Please try to return your bike at least half hour before we close.
- Can I pick the bike up right before the shop closes for the evening and be charged for an afternoon
if I return it the next day or pretend I didn't have it an extra overnight?
Overnight is overnight and we charge everyone the same overnight price if you pick it up early or late in the day. We also ask that you pick up your rental before 5:00 pm so we don't get flooded with overnight rentals when we close for the evening.
- Are the trails in Topanga technical or difficult?
There's a variety of trail options. Some are rocky and technical and some are non-technical fire roads. See the videos and photos above for some snapshots of the trails.
- Are the trails hilly?
Yes, it wouldn't be mountain biking without a few hills. Generally the fire roads are flatter than the single tracks and most people enjoy the combination of both for a great mountain biking experience.
- I'm new to Los Angeles. Do you have trail maps available and can you show me where to ride?
There are awesome trails abound with various terrains and we're more than happy to point you to them based on your riding abilities. You can go to the Maps section on this page to download them or we can give you a basic route map when you show up. We also have detailed trail maps for purchase.
- Can I rent a bike early Saturday morning and join your shop bike ride?
Please make a reservation and visit us on Friday so we have enough time to properly set up the bike for you. We need to set the shock, adjust saddle height, fit a helmet, install your desired pedals, etc.
- Do you take cash for the deposit?
No, we don't take cash for the deposit. We only accept deposit in the form of a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club and JCB). We put a hold on your credit card when you pick up the bike. We run a charge on the same card when you return the bike.
